History of Buckingham Palace
Buckingham Palace is the London residence and administrative headquarters of the monarchy of the United Kingdom. It has been a focus of royal hospitality since 1837 when Queen Victoria moved into what was then known as Buckingham House. The building at that time was relatively small and modest in comparison to its current size and grandeur.
The palace underwent significant renovations and expansions over the next century, culminating in a major reconstruction project between 1824 and 1834. During this time, much of the original building was demolished and replaced with grand facades on both the garden front and Mall front.
